Riverbourne Centre created a platform for young film enthusiasts through a filmmaking workshop on August 19

As I walked into the room of Riverbourne Centre where the filmmaking workshop for children was being conducted, I could see how focused the children were in the ongoing session, as no heads turned towards me. The workshop coordinator, Arun John Mani, who is the head of department of Mass Communication Department at Chethana College, asked me to attend the class for a few hours and listen to the doubts these kids were asking related to filmmaking techniques. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the seemingly amateur attendees spew technical terms and give the coordinators a hard time with their erudite doubts.

When asked about the young attendees’  response to the class, Mani said,“We conduct workshops for students, but we have never conducted a workshop for children belonging to an age group of 8-15 years. They are so much into technology and know a lot more about filmmaking than what we knew when we were their age. We plan to conduct another session for these kids so that they can have more experience with the equipment and techniques used for filmmaking, as we are only giving the basics this time.”

As I left after an enriching experience, I could foresee a bright future in the eyes of the young children, with promises of infusing innovation and creativity in the field of filmmaking.
