These star studded films all have one thing common among them

To each his own. The saying can be synonymous with almost everything in life. Whether it be a person’s likes, or the way he is, or his personality as such. I’d say communism comes under this radar as well. It’s always been a big part of Kerala’s culture more so than most other states in the country as we have a rich history with it. With politics making such direct influences in our lives, especially during our college years, it comes as no surprise that we make a lot of films based on it too. And also, communism and the communist ideology has come into much scrutiny over the years. Which ultimately results in the audience getting different takes on the same core theme. WtzupKochi takes a look at three such movies that have been released as of late.

Oru Mexican Aparatha

Directed by Tom Emmatty | Cast: Tovino Thomas, Roopesh Peethambaran, Neeraj Madhav, Gayathri Suresh

This was the first of the three to be released. With the plot set in a government college in Ernakulam in the mid 2000s, the movie shows the life of two students at the college Paul (Tovino Thomas) and Subhash (Neeraj Madhav). It follows their attempt to establish a change in the politics at their college. For years till then, the college was run by the KSQ faction. The two friends attempt to challenge the monopoly the KSQ held by creating a new wing called SFY. Released on 3rd March, the film garnered a lot of good reviews and is definitely worth the watch.

Sakhavu (2017)

Written & Directed by Sidhartha Siva | Cast: Nivin Pauly, Aishwarya Rajesh, Aparna Gopinath, Gayathri Suresh

This movie puts forth a question that plagues a lot of minds. Does the old ideals that made a sakhavu still exist, or has the term become a shell for overambitious politics that can’t even tell right from wrong. Sure, ideologies should change with the times to accommodate the world, but the question here is how much? But that’s not what the movie deals with. It follows the life of a ruthless, ambitious yet kind of lazy ‘sakhavu’ Comrade Krishna Kumar. Note the ‘sakhavu’ in quotes, he just professes to follow the ideals. His life changes when he meets with a true veteran comrade, Krishnan (also played by Nivin Pauly) who gets inspired after learning about his life.

CIA: Comrade In America

Directed by Amal Neerad | Cast: Dulquer Salmaan, Chandini Sreedharan, Karthika Muraleedharan

This Amal Neerad film is said to be a romantic action flick, with Dulquer in the lead. All throughout the filming, the details of the movie was kept under close wraps. With the music out and a teaser as well, the movie release is much anticipated. With both the other two movies doing great at the box office, we are already expecting something great in this one as well. The film is all set to be released on 5th May. This might be a coincidence or done with real intent as the date coincides with the birthdate of Karl Marx. That’s less than 2 weeks away. Let’s wait and watch!
