How Batman Stole the Spotlight from Maveli this Onam

Everybody needs a vacation, even Batman. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise if you saw him at Chai Cofi on Sep 17. Fans from all over Kochi got together to pay tribute to the Dark Knight for the Batman Day celebration organized by Kerala Comics Brotherhood. Here are a few exclusive moments from the event.

Before the event we were skeptical whether anyone would show up in costume, but look who decided to show up.

For the hardcore comic fans, Comic Collectives had a display of bat comics, ranging from the latest to very old editions, while some are even available in Malayalam.

After that, I just had to take a look at the Malayalam subtitles for the Dark Knight movie

We also found artist Sachin M.S doing live paintings of our favourite Bat Characters at the event

Why buy an action figure when you can make one of your own! Cosplay India conducted this unique workshop for the fans who love to DIY.

The best part about the event was that it brought together people with lot of interesting things to share about Batman. For instance did you know that initially in the comics, the Bat did not have a no-kill-policy? Oh yeah, apparently in one of the earliest editions he broke his enemies’ necks and even threw them in acid tanks. Yikes!

What we can take back from this is that Kochi has had its taste of comic culture and it’s a delight to see new ventures like this coming up in Kerala. Kudos to Kochi Comic Brotherhood for this great initiative and we will certainly be looking out for more events like this. Happy Batman Day!
