If you are from Kochi and frequent social media, you must have come across the name Excel 2016 (or 2015,2014 etc..). With a ground breaking social media presence that transcend it’s “college fest” tag and a website design to boot, Excel  is a Tech-managerial event that keeps people coming back ever year. The huge fan following among the working professionals and college goers of engineering and non-engineering streams to Excel is due to the vast array of events spanning all domains and held consistently through an academic year.

Excel, the nation’s second and South India’s first ever fest of its kind started in 2001 by the students of Govt. Model Engineering College with a motto, Inspire, Innovate, Engineer. Over the years, the fest has grown exponentially, consistently playing host to some of the most talented students, the most illustrious speakers and the most reputed companies. Now gearing towards its 17th edition, Excel continues to excite the participants with its wide array of technical and non-technical events and with a promise to live up to its motto.

The Legacy

Established in 1989 by the Government of Kerala, under the aegis of the IHRD, Govt. Model Engineering College made it to the pinnacle of the engineering arena by the turn of the century. Realizing the relevance of a platform for interaction among engineering students and working professionals, a group of forward thinkers from the college hosted the first Excel in 2001, giving birth to India’s second tech fest. Since then, Govt. Model Engineering College has become a favoured destination for corporates and Excel has evolved into a techno-managerial symposium that inspires innovative and enduring ideas for the entire cross section of society. Today, Excel functions with a corporate structure and caters to people from all walks of life. From innovation challenges, technical workshops and quizzes to musical concerts, football matches and fun zones, Excel has it all. The students who make Excel happen are groomed and have consistently proven themselves to be capable managers.

Glimpses from Excel 2015:

Since its inception, Excel has strived to achieve and sustain a certain standard and it is this bar which defines the reach of Excel. The emphasis on quality is now part of the culture of the college and has kept Excel at a different tier, be it in the events or the crowd which comes for Excel. Over the years, the Excel official website has had 10 lakh plus website hits and 20000 Facebook likes.

Excel 2016 promises to be bigger and better than ever before!
