The second edition of Stories Worth Sharing Kochi  witnessed a houseful crowd at Studio Pepperfry on May 13

There are some moments when you feel like you don’t want to miss this event. Just like attending the AR Rahman show ( which got postponed due to bad weather), the curiosity to attend Stories Worth Sharing (SWS) 2.0 was high. The concept of SWS made me feel that there is finally an event where you can hear some great stories without getting bored. The idea of SWS was conceived by Himanshu Poswal and Mohit Munjal while they were just a couple of youngsters who happened to witness some foreigners sitting together and sharing their stories without using their gadgets. From Varanasi to Kochi, SWS has held their storytelling events in some of the major states in India.

By the time I reached Studio Pepperfry, I was excited to see that the seats were getting filled and the organizers of the event kept bringing out more chairs for the audience. The hosts of the show, Saroj Anil Kumar, and Rittu Jacob, seemed to be having a competition about who would get the chance to invite the speakers. From lawyers, doctors, startup entrepreneurs, navy officers to the youngest speaker SWS has ever had, little Mehar; SWS 2.0 was itself a story worth sharing.

There were some interesting and eye-opening moments for me, especially when Mehar wanted her mom alongside her while she narrated her story to the audience. It reminded me of the days when I used to fight with my brother over which story we wanted to hear and the school youth festival days, where my entire body froze up when I decided to attend the recitation competition for the first. Mehar also read a story from one of her favorite books.  Her mother  Priyanka told us that we need to make sure that children do not need to have mobile phones and gaming gadgets, but they should be given the chance to fall in love with words.

SWS 2.0 was the platform where individuals had their chance to share their stories and while some stories gave out beautiful messages like being thankful for what we have, never giving up no matter what and some stories were all about those hardcore funny and confused moments we all face at some point of our lives. Friends overdoing things like buying new bed sheets and cleaning up the hostel room because their family was visiting was. The event also saw participants being given postcards with names of other participants of the event and a one-liner describing them and they had to find out who that person was and give them the postcards, making everyone interact with each other in the process.

In this fast growing technology savvy world, it’s always better to keep those gadgets aside, get out of your room and just make small talks with your family, friends, and people around you. SWS makes you believe that you will be happy that you got out of the room and took a chance with the reality around you.
